About the Department
The Department of Physical Education at Shri Shankaracharya Professional University (SSPU), Bhilai is dedicated to promoting excellence in physical education, sports, health, and fitness through quality teaching, practical training, and research. The department aims to develop physically fit, mentally strong, ethically responsible, and professionally competent graduates who can contribute to the field of physical education and sports.
At present, the department offers the Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (BPES) programme. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in physical education, sports sciences, health education, exercise physiology, sports psychology, biomechanics, yoga, sports management, and coaching, with equal emphasis on theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
The department encourages students to participate in inter-college, inter-university, state, and national-level sports competitions. Regular sports events, fitness programmes, yoga sessions, workshops, seminars, and extension activities are organized to promote leadership, discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and community engagement.
With qualified faculty members, sports facilities, and a student-centric learning environment, the department strives to prepare graduates for careers as physical education teachers, coaches, fitness trainers, sports administrators, and other allied professionals while promoting lifelong health and wellness.
Achievements
- Sneha Singh (B.Sc. VI Semester) secured the Bronze Medal in the All India Arm Wrestling Championship 2025–26.
- Bunty Chandravanshi (BBA I Semester) secured the Gold Medal in the International Ball Badminton Tournament 2025.
- Ashish Shukla (BBA I Semester) secured the Bronze Medal in the International Karate Tournament 2025. He represented the University in the North East Inter University Karate Tournament 2025–26 and subsequently qualified for the All India Inter University Karate Tournament 2025–26.
- A. Dattadari Rao (B.Com. IV Semester) secured the Bronze Medal in the National Karate Championship 2025 and represented the University in the North East Inter University Karate Tournament 2025–26.
- Rohan Pandey (BPES I Semester) represented the University in the All India Inter University Taekwondo Tournament 2025–26.
- Disha Bose (B.Pharm.) secured the Bronze Medal in the National Women's Handball Championship 2025.
