ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Microbiology, established in the year of 2020 offers a dynamic learning environment focused on the study of microbial life and its practical applications. Our academic program integrates core subjects—such as microbial genetics, immunology, applied biotechnology, and plant-microbe interactions—with modern laboratory techniques. Through rigorous practical training, we empower students to address real-world challenges in bio-industry, medicine, and agriculture, guiding them towards impactful careers as researchers, educators, and industry professionals.

RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS
Dr. Naresh Kumar Dewangan
The research programme is centred on Aquatic disease, aquaculture, and animal health, with a multidisciplinary approach incorporating theoretical, experimental, and computational methodologies. The work is directed towards generating new scientific insights and investigating their relevance to contemporary research and technological applications.
Research outcomes have been disseminated through peer-reviewed national and international publications, conference proceedings. Active participation in academic and scientific forums provides opportunities for presenting research findings and fostering scholarly interactions and collaborations.
The broader academic engagement includes research mentoring, supervision of student projects, collaborative research initiatives, preparation of research proposals, and interdisciplinary academic activities.
Dr. Shweta Singh Chauhan
Actively engaged in research and academic activities in the areas of Endophytes, Secondary metabolites and Green Nanoparticles The research work includes experimental, theoretical, and computational investigations with a focus on developing innovative solutions to contemporary scientific and technological challenges.
Published research papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals, along with contributions to books, book chapters, and conference proceedings. Regularly participate in and present research findings at national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, and symposia.
Research activities also include student research guidance, collaborative research, project development, and interdisciplinary academic initiatives.
Vision
Our vision of department is to establish a center of excellence in microbial education and research, empowering future scientists with strong theoretical knowledge, advanced technical skills, and innovative mind-sets to address global challenges in healthcare, agriculture, bio-industry, and environmental sustainability.
Mission
- Provide students with strong foundational knowledge in microbial sciences through structured lectures, laboratory training, and fieldworks.
- Equip learners with practical skills in plant disease diagnosis, crop management, biodiversity documentation, and ecological assessment.
- Encourage applied research projects that address local agricultural and environmental challenges, linking classroom learning with community needs.
- Maintain a well microbial culture, and modern laboratories to support hands‑on learning and research.
- Foster collaborations with farmers, industries, and research institutions to translate botanical knowledge into practical solutions for society.
- Promote environmental stewardship by engaging students in conservation, eco‑restoration, and sustainable resource management activities.
LABORATORIES AND FACILITIES
The Department of Microbiology maintains well‑equipped laboratories that meet all prerequisites of the B.Sc. Botany syllabus as per NEP guidelines, ensuring students gain hands‑on experience in plant sciences.
For advanced study and research, the department houses modern instruments including Soxhlet apparatus, centrifuge, vacuum rotary evaporator, incubator, hot air oven, laminar air flow cabinet, autoclave, water bath, and a range of microscopes. These facilities support practical training in plant physiology, pathology, biochemistry, and microbiology, while also enabling postgraduate students and researchers to carry out experimental work in phytochemistry, microbial culture, and ecological studies. The combination of teaching laboratories, research infrastructure, and field‑based resources provides a comprehensive environment for both learning and innovation
