SSPU launches 'Drug-Free Youth for a Developed India' campaign
BHILAI, Aug 2
A CAMPAIGN titled 'Drug-Free Youth for a Developed India' was launched at the local Shri Shankaracharya Professional University (SSPU) under the aegis of National Service Scheme (NSS) unit.
Commencing with the Prime Minister's address and a pledge for a drug-free life, the campaign aims to engage the youth and steer the younger generation away from substance abuse, fostering a connection with education and skill development.
Dr Deepak Kumar Singh, NSS Programme Officer, informed that various programmes would be organised at the university over the course of a week as part of this campaign. Speaking on the occasion, the University's Vice-Chancellor, Dr Smita Selot, remarked that the tendency towards substance abuse impacts the health, education, employment, family life, and social well-being of the youth. Therefore, efforts towards a drug-free society should not be limited merely to breaking the addiction; they must also promote awareness, values, sports, skill development, employment, counseling, and a positive lifestyle.
Events such as pledge-taking ceremonies, rallies, street plays (nukkad natak), poster competitions, lectures, and counseling sessions are being organised at the university to mark the occasion. A large number of students participated in the programme featuring the Prime Minister's address and the pledge-taking ceremony.
Dr Deepak Singh stated that students are participating in large numbers in the various organised events, including the poster competition under the guidance of Dr Prachi Nimje and the street play under the direction of Akanksha Sharma.
University Registrar Dr Vaibhav Tiwari stated that this pledge campaign aimed at freeing the youth from the growing menace of drug addiction will continue uninterrupted. Newly-admitted students will also be apprised of the initiative, and various events will be organised to realise the vision of Viksit Bharat through a drug-free society.
