The role of a pharmacist is as important as that of a teacher: Shri. I.P. Mishra
Under the Faculty of Pharmacy at Shri Shankaracharya Professional University, various competitions and public awareness programs were organized on the occasion of World Pharmacist Day and National Pharmacy Week. The events were jointly hosted by Shri Shankaracharya College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Shri Shankaracharya Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, the School of Pharmacy, and KIPS College.
More than 500 students enthusiastically participated in the program. Speaking on the occasion, the Chancellor of the University, I.P. Mishra, stated that a pharmacist's role is not limited to merely dispensing medicines; they play a vital role similar to a teacher and counselor, acting as a supportive ally who provides accurate health-related information.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Dr. Smita Selot, urged students to keep themselves updated in alignment with the continuous research and advancements taking place in the field of pharmacy today. She emphasized that pharmacists should also fulfill their responsibilities as health advisors and awareness creators in rural areas effectively.
Providing details about the event, Convener Dr. Swarnali Das Paul shared that the primary objective of World Pharmacist Day was to familiarize students with the crucial role of pharmacists in healthcare. It aimed to raise awareness about contemporary topics such as the safe and rational use of medicines, prevention of antimicrobial resistance, infection control, vaccination, a holistic health approach, artificial intelligence and digital health, innovative treatment methodologies, and personalized medicine.
This year, the event was organized around the theme “Swasth Bharat: Combating Antimicrobial Resistance.” On this occasion, various creative competitions were held, including poster making, pharmaceutical quizzes, brochure designing, plays, street plays (nukkad natak), and short film making. Students showcased their talent, knowledge, and creativity, delivering an impactful message on the evolving role of pharmacists, the safe use of medicines, and public awareness against antimicrobial resistance.
The performances of the students in the competitions are being evaluated based on set parameters. Three winners will be selected from each college for every competition. The selected winners will participate in the state-level final round to be held in Raipur during the upcoming National Pharmacy Week. The participants selected at that stage will get the opportunity to represent the state at the national level event.
Dr. Hemant Badwaik, Director of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the university, along with Dr. Gunjan Jaiswani and Dr. Devendra Kumar Sahu, conveyed through the program that in modern healthcare systems, the role of a pharmacist extends beyond dispensing drugs. It encompasses patient safety, drug awareness, control over antimicrobial resistance, health education, infection control, digital health, and public health.
The event was attended by University Registrar Dr. Vaibhav Tiwari, Dr. Rajesh Choudhary, Dr. Alok Singh Thakur, Dr. Jayashree, and a large number of faculty members and students.
