Crucial Role of Technical Skills in Problem Solving: Dr. Smita Selot"

Bhilai — A two-day internal hackathon was organized at Shri Shankaracharya Professional University to facilitate participation in the Smart India Hackathon 2026, hosted by the Central Government. In this event, over 900 students from the university participated across 160 teams, presenting technical and practical solutions to various problems.

During the hackathon, students showcased innovative ideas and technical solutions across diverse fields, including healthcare, agriculture, smart education, cybersecurity, and culture and heritage. Identifying real-world challenges, the participants presented their projects using modern technology to address these issues.

Dr. Smita Selot, Vice-Chancellor of the university, stated that the primary objective of such events is to foster innovation, creativity, problem-solving abilities, team spirit, and technical acumen among students. She added that hackathons provide students with a platform to apply their imagination and technical knowledge to solve real-world problems.

A team of experts evaluated the various projects presented during the internal hackathon. Hackathon Coordinator Prof. Simple Kawade informed that based on the evaluation, 95 outstanding teams were selected for nomination to the national-level Smart India Hackathon 2026 event, while 5 teams have been placed on the waiting list.

Dr. Sonu Agrawal, Head of the Computer Science Department, commended the students' enthusiasm, creativity, and technical talent, highlighting that such events offer students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a practical environment. Furthermore, he noted that these platforms play a key role in developing innovation, entrepreneurship, and teamwork capabilities among students. He added that the widespread participation reflects the students' technical skills, creative thinking, and growing interest in innovation. Faculty members from the Department of Computer Science actively supported the event's organization.
