Munshi Premchand remembered 31 July 2026
SHRI Shankaracharya Professional University (SSPU) hosted a vibrant dialogue programme to celebrate the birth anniversary of the legendary author Munshi Premchand, organised under the auspices of the Department of Hindi. The event featured active participation from faculty members and students who gathered to discuss and reflect upon the immense literary contributions of Munshi Premchand.
Dr Sushil Chandra Tiwari, the university's Director of Development, inaugurated the programme. In his opening address, he noted that Premchand's stories convey powerful messages of humanity, compassion, equality, and social justice, brilliantly capturing the daily struggles of farmers, laborers, and marginalised groups.
Students contributed significantly to the academic discussions by presenting critiques and reviews of Premchand's notable works. Student Bhavana Dewangan reviewed the classic story Idgah, explaining how it serves as a lasting inspiration for empathy and moral character, while B.Sc. student Muskan Kesharwani analysed the novel Nirmala, focusing on its sharp critique of social issues such as the dowry system, mismatched marriages, and women's societal constraints.
Additional student presentations included Sakshi Sahu discussing the themes of patriotism and the Swadeshi movement in Suhag Ki Sari, alongside Muskan Pandey, Preeti Pal, Shreyansh Verma, and Muskan Kesharwani, who highlighted the emotional depth and national consciousness present in Premchand's poetic compositions. The event also featured insights from faculty members Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Dr Himanshu Gupta, and Dr Ranjana Sharma, with Department Head Dr Sarita Rawat co-ordinating and hosting the proceedings.
